DURHAM, NC (February 24, 2026) - The HEADstrong Foundation is asking the public for assistance in identifying the next Nick’s House location to support families traveling to Durham for advanced cancer care.
The Foundation is actively seeking a multi-family home near the Duke Cancer Institute that will provide safe and free housing for families traveling to North Carolina seeking cancer treatments. Seed funding has been secured, but the right property has not yet been identified.
Nick’s House, which currently operates in Philadelphia and Boston, provides families with a safe, comfortable, and supportive home away from home while undergoing treatment. The mission of Nick’s House is to ease the burden of housing costs and daily stress so families can focus on the health and well-being of their loved ones.
The Duke Cancer Institute is nationally recognized for its comprehensive and advanced cancer care, designated as an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center. Patients travel from across the United States and internationally to access its innovative therapies, clinical trials, and specialized oncology programs. World-class treatment often comes with financial and logistical challenges, making lodging a critical need.
“Durham is a nationally recognized destination for cancer care, drawing families from across the country and internationally in search of treatment and hope,” said Cheryl Colleluori, President of the HEADstrong Foundation. “As we look to establish a Nick’s House in Durham, we are actively seeking the right property to provide families with a safe, supportive place to stay, so that during such challenging times, they can focus on healing, rather than financial burdens.”
The HEADstrong Foundation is Seeking:
- A multi-family home with at least 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and one accessible bedroom/bathroom on the first floor
- Safe, quiet neighborhoods near Duke Cancer Institute
- Off street parking availability preferred
- Ideal neighborhoods include: Old West Durham, Trinity Park, Walltown, and other nearby areas with easy access to Duke Cancer Institute.
